The process of assisting individuals in overcoming their struggles, begins with me believing that my clients can be better. When working with individuals who are experiencing symptoms of grief, anxiety, depression, and trauma, I utilize research to stay current on the latest and most effective evidence-based practices, interventions, and approaches that increase the chances of positive outcomes, to help my clients on their journey towards healing and restoration.

Before beginning the therapeutic process, I work to build the kind of therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly, in a warm and nonjudgmental space. I work with individuals, families, and couples.  Effective therapy lies in empowering my clients to develop self-awareness through reflection, observation, and self-discovery, as well in cognitive restructuring, behavior analysis, mindfulness meditation. Teaching clients effective coping skills and effective ways of thinking about their struggles gives them a sense of control and agency over their own lives.

I began my social work career providing community mental health to individuals with severe mental illness, co-occurring disorders, incarceration, various family challenges as well as individuals experiencing homelessness and trauma.  I believe that a strong therapeutic alliance is built on mutual trust, respect, and clients’ right to feel safe and heard in therapy. Effective therapy relies on the strengthening of that relationship throughout therapy so that clients feel empowered to actively engage in the development of agreed upon goals, the commitment to complete assigned tasks, and the continued strengthening of the bond between client and therapist to enable the client to overcome their struggles and self-actualize to be the best version of themselves they desire to be. â€‹

I am an advocate for Intimate Partner Violence, sexual assault, and gun violence survivors. I have worked in the community, will all populations, for the last 10 years. I am a certified Domestic Violence counselor and a Social Worker, earning my Master of Social Work from Delaware State University. I hold certifications in trauma informed and grief yoga. I am also Founder of Grant Yourself Permission, a non-profit that was created to build community, reduce stress, and create a safe environment that is accessible to people that might not have immediate access to grief support. Having personally experienced the profound impact of grief and the triggers to follow, I understand the need for a safe and nurturing place where individuals can heal, share their pain, and find their strength through that. With my trauma informed and grief yoga certifications, I am able to provide space for people, who have experienced loss in a violent and/or a traumatic way, to focus on body awareness and self-regulation techniques. Working with clients, I use art therapy, group therapy and individual counseling. My goal is to conjoin a community / family of individuals who can learn to support each other in a healthy way and lean on one another, share their stories, and find comfort in knowing they aren't alone as well as being able to recognize who they are as individuals finding their strength again. My hope is that my empathy, knowledge, and dedication become an invaluable resource for those in need of support and understanding during one of life's most challenging experiences.
